Unforgettable Ishigaki: My Okinawan Paradise Found!
文章目錄

Ishigaki Island, hailed as the "Maldives of Japan," completely captivated me. From savoring exquisite Ishigaki beef to exploring vibrant markets and crafting my own glass masterpiece, this island getaway was pure magic. Come along as I share my incredible journey and inspire you to experience the wonders of Ishigaki!

First Impressions and the 730 Intersection

My adventure began at the iconic 730 intersection, marked by a stone monument. The "730" represents July 30th, the day Okinawa switched from driving on the right to the left side of the road. This bustling hub, with its abundance of shops and restaurants, serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the island.

From the 730 intersection, I ventured into a charming shopping street overflowing with local Ishigaki products. Hidden within the alleyways, I discovered the bustling public market, a foodie's paradise. But one thing kept catching my eye – Ishigaki beef!

Indulging in Ishigaki Beef: A Culinary Dream

My craving for Ishigaki beef led me to several incredible dining experiences. First, I grabbed a quick and delicious Ishigaki beef burger at Heart Land. They offer a variety of options, including a 100% Ishigaki beef burger, an avocado and Okinawan Wagyu beef burger, and even an Ishigaki pineapple and Okinawan Wagyu beef burger! The juicy patty, combined with fresh toppings, was a symphony of flavors. The pineapple burger, with its sweet and savory notes, was a particularly delightful surprise.

Beyond Beef: Sweet Treats and Glassblowing

After indulging in my fair share of beef, I needed a refreshing change of pace. Being a huge fan of Japanese shaved ice, I headed to a local shop and ordered the "Okinawa Purple Dream" shaved ice. This beautiful creation featured layers of fluffy shaved ice, milk, purple sweet potato mont blanc, and a crispy local pastry called "Kinchugo." The combination of textures and flavors was heavenly.

Next, I immersed myself in Ishigaki's rich glassblowing tradition. At a local workshop near the 730 intersection, I learned the art of glassblowing and created my own unique double-layered blue glass, reminiscent of Ishigaki's stunning ocean hues. The experience was surprisingly easy and affordable, starting at around 3000 JPY.

Retail Therapy and a Chic Hotel Stay

No trip to Ishigaki is complete without exploring the vibrant covered shopping arcade near the public market. I stocked up on local souvenirs, including adorable milk carton plushies and stylish T-shirts. I also replenished my supply of the highly sought-after Ishigaki chili oil, a must-buy for any foodie.

For my stay, I chose the newly renovated CUCULE Hotel, conveniently located near the shopping street. My stylish Japanese-style double room provided a comfortable and modern retreat. The hotel also boasts a rooftop terrace with breathtaking ocean and stargazing views, a chic sake bar, and a delicious breakfast featuring local specialties.

Exploring Kawari Bay: A Natural Wonder

On my second day, I embarked on a scenic drive along the northwestern coast of Ishigaki Island, culminating at the breathtaking Kawari Bay. This three-star Michelin Green Guide destination and designated "Place of Scenic Beauty" is an absolute must-see.

From the Kawari Park observation deck, I gazed upon the bay's mesmerizing turquoise waters. Next, I hopped aboard a glass-bottom boat, specifically the one operated by Haikō, known for its extra-large glass panels. For a mere 1300 JPY, I enjoyed a 30-minute cruise, witnessing graceful sea turtles and vibrant coral reefs.

Ishigaki Island truly exceeded my expectations. With its stunning natural beauty, delectable cuisine, and unique cultural experiences, it’s a destination that will stay with me forever. I encourage everyone to add this Okinawan gem to their travel bucket list.
