The area is also famous for its mineral water and delicious citrus fruits. I highly recommend hiking one of the many trails, like the relatively easy 1.3km-long Eoseungsaengak Trail. It took me roughly 30 minutes to reach the summit, and the panoramic view of Jeju Island and the coastline was simply mesmerizing.
Ishigaki's Kawaping Bay is a sight to behold. Designated as a three-star Michelin Green Guide destination, it boasts crystal-clear waters, nine picturesque islets, and a kaleidoscope of colors. The bay offers an effortless way to witness marine life and coral reefs. I took a glass-bottom boat tour with Haibon, which offers large viewing panels for optimal underwater sightseeing. Seeing the sea turtles swimming below was an unforgettable experience. While the bay is not suitable for swimming due to strong currents, the boat tour provides the perfect vantage point. Afterward, I indulged in some delicious Blue Seal ice cream – a must-try in Okinawa! As an added bonus, Ishigaki is Japan's first Dark Sky Park, making it an ideal spot for stargazing.
